Celia’s parents, apparently a happily married couple, were found shot dead on a cliff top – apparently as a result of a suicide pact. Some twelve to fifteen years later Mrs Burton-Cox, concerned that Celia is about to marry her son, approaches Mrs Ariadne Oliver, the mystery novelist, at a literary luncheon and asks the question – who killed whom? As Ariadne is Celia’s godmother she is curious and starts investigating, enlisting the help of Hercule Poirot. It’s not the best Agatha Christie book I’ve read, but I found it entertaining, if rather repetitive and predictable – I worked out the mystery quite easily. ![]() Whilst we were away over the last few days I did take some of my current books with me to read but as the hotel had two bookcases of books to choose from I picked up Elephants Can Remember to read instead. ![]() My posts may be a bit hit and miss for a while as we have recently sold our house and are busy searching for somewhere to live in Northumberland/Scottish Borders. ![]()

Honestly speaking, the only reason why Leviathan Falls didn’t receive a full 5 stars rating from me is due to Tanaka’s POV in the first half of the novel. It’s the final volume in the series, and although I didn’t feel like I was bored with any of the pages written here, I also wondered whether the first half of the novel-mainly Tanaka’s hunting session-needed to be that long. But in a way, it also felt like a beginning of a new self-contained installment. Leviathan Falls continue from where Tiamat’s Wrath left off. “The love of a parent for their kid is the last thing to go.” Endings are hard to nail, and the authors should be proud of this achievement. He is actually saying that there is good in being blind. Auxier is not being discriminatory by saying blind people have hightened senses. I am sad to see how many people saw this as discriminatory or horrific. He also apparently believes that blind children would not read this book, as he addresses his audience as "sighted people like you and I." Really, Jonathan Auxier? That’s very discriminatory of you. After Peter's eyes get gouged out by birds on the first page, Peter ceases being a human and is solely Blindness in the form of a boy. Sadly, the author only wanted to use Peter's blindness as a plot device. ![]() And to feature a child who is blind as the main character in a fantasy story seemed an awesome prospect.
